Genesis Tutors – Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy
1. Policy Statement
Genesis Tutors is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people. 2. Scope
This policy applies to all staff, including the sole trader, contracted tutors, and administrative personnel. It encompasses all activities involving children and young people under the care of Genesis Tutors.
3. Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
Deborah Black, Owner and Lead Tutor, serves as the DSL for Genesis Tutors. She is responsible for overseeing safeguarding practices, ensuring compliance with relevant procedures, and acting as the primary contact for safeguarding concerns.
4. Safer Recruitment
Genesis Tutors implements safer recruitment practices in line with the London Safeguarding Children Procedures . All staff and tutors undergo:londonsafeguardingchildrenprocedures.co.uk
Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks.
Verification of professional qualifications and references.
Assessment of suitability to work with children through structured interviews.
5. Training and Development
All staff receive safeguarding training appropriate to their roles, updated regularly to reflect current legislation and guidance. Training covers:
Recognising signs of abuse and neglect.
Understanding the procedures for reporting concerns.

6. Reporting and Responding to Concerns
Staff must report any safeguarding concerns to the DSL immediately. The DSL will follow the procedures outlined in the London Safeguarding Children Procedures and liaise with Hillingdon's Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) as necessary londonsafeguardingchildrenprocedures.co.uk
7. Confidentiality and Information Sharing
Genesis Tutors respects the confidentiality of all parties involved in safeguarding concerns. Information is shared on a need-to-know basis, in accordance with the London Multi-Agency Safeguarding Data Sharing Agreement londonscb.gov.uk
8. Code of Conduct
All staff are expected to adhere to a code of conduct that promotes the safety and well-being of children. This includes maintaining professional boundaries, using appropriate language, and avoiding situations that could lead to allegations of misconduct.
9. Review and Monitoring
This policy is reviewed annually or following significant changes in legislation or guidance. The DSL is responsible for ensuring the policy remains up-to-date and effective.
